UNDERSTAND GOD is a guide to learning about the Bible and about God, using examples from the Bible, the words of Jesus Christ and the lives of Biblical characters and their interaction with the Creator to illustrate the points the author makes. These include that most people don’t read the Bible and make up their own minds about it but simply accept interpretations from their church or pastor. The writer asks her readers to fearlessly decide and think for themselves, even if they disagree with what she says.
Part 1 explains, under the heading the Old Testament, how God punishes and blesses; the consequences of choices; the 10 Commandments; how God reveals himself; what impresses God and how God works with the people He chooses. God’s interaction with Biblical figures Abraham, Noah, Jeremiah, David, Hosea and the Israelites illustrate how different each relationship can be. Under the New Testament, the author sets out the main differences in the relationship between God and Man before and after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The main point is that the laws man was expected to simply obey in the Old Testament are now guidelines and a completely different relationship is possible: one in which we are invited to seek, trust and live according to the guidance of the Spirit of God. Each person’s relationship with God is different and unique. What might be right for one could be completely wrong for someone else and it is up to us to establish that relationship and live and act under its guidance. This is the new freedom the crucifixion has given us.
Part 2 interprets aspects of the Bible including conversion, morality and holiness, whether God is real or good, the reasons for hardship and suffering, divorce, marriage, premarital sex and living together, respecting your parents, how to treat your husband or wife and broader issues like the purpose of life and what she believes Christians are being called to do in these troubled times of spiritual war.
This riveting read could change your view of the world and religion ... and, just by the way, your life!
